Basic Elements Of Any Design

Graphics design is done to convey any message to the audience making it more presentable and attractive. The elements of design are considered as the key factors which determine the success of the design. Lines, Shapes, mass, texture and color, these elements are generally considered as the building block of any designs. You can disintegrate any design into these elements. Lines are the very basic element of a design. Regardless of using alone or in groups, lines of any shapes aid the readability, appearance and message of the design. Lines are used to organize the textures, guide the eyes to the main theme or perspective and make a statement to convey universal things. [Photo credit: desktoppub.about.com]
Mass:

Mass equals size of the object. Each object used while designing has a physical mass which we are must to consider while designing. The objects in the designs must be evenly distributed. The layout shouldn’t be looked heavy or light or the paper is too stiff or flimsy. Rather you have to utilize the whole piece of canvas to make the artwork. [Photo Credit: yamaha-motor.pl]
Shape

Shape is one of the basic elements of design. Alone or in combination with other elements or even other shapes it can easily make a composition. The three basic types of shapes include geometric, natural and abstract. Certain shapes are used to symbolize an idea or convey a mood or emotion. Like a cross is used to symbolize the Christianity. Texture

Texture is the visual or tactile surface characteristics of a piece. Texture can refer to the actual surface of a design or to the visual appearance of a design. While most elements of design such as color and type are simply seen by the audience, people can actually feel texture. The actual or visual texture must be matched with the overall message you want to convey. [Photo Credit: Photoshoproapmap.com]
Color and Value

Color doesn’t resemble only red, green blue or these shades. A black and white image or different strokes of gray scale can easily tell a lot of words. Color is an added dimension that can evoke moods and make powerful statements when used wisely. Value is presented in the lightness or darkness of the designs. Value is relative to the background color, contrast and other items on the page. [Photo Credit: profects.cbe.ab.ca]
