Convert An Image Into A Color Sketch
Sketching is a powerful means of interpersonal communication. We view sketching as a combination of interactive drawing and linguistic interaction. The drawing carries the spatial aspects of what is to be communicated.

Conversion of An Image to Color Sketh
Here I am presenting a tutorial which will convert an ordinary image into a colored sketched. It is really simple to illustrate yet great fun to enjoy. The conversion is done in Photoshop.
Step 1:
At first let us open an image that we want to convert into color sketch. Then we need to duplicate the background layer, just make a right click on the layer and select “Duplicate Layer”. So now we have a background layer and a duplicate layer.

make background layer
Step 2:
We will work on the duplicate layer. First Desaturate the top layer, by going to “Image >> Adjustments >> Desaturate”. Then go to “Filter >> Other >> High Pass”. Based on the image now let us adjust the radius so the image looks like mine. Here 2.0 is used for the image.

Step 2: Desaturating The Layer
Step 3:
Now let us open the levels window. Just we have to press Ctrl+L or Image >> Adjustments >> Levels. Now to render the image like a sketched image the 3 sliders are adjusted.

Step 3: Adjusting the Level
Step 4:
Now the top layer’s Opacity is changed down to about 50-60% and the blending mode is set to “Overlay”. Now the image will take a near sketchy look.

Step 4: Adjusting Opacity
Step 5:
Now go to the bottom layer and Filter >> Artistic >> Cutout is applied.

Step 5: Applying Filter
Step 6:
The image has already got the desired Color sketch face. But to add a little texture to the image, some additional tasks are done in the bottom layer. Go to Filter >> Noise >> Add noise.

Step 6: Add Noise
Amount: 5%, Distribution: Gaussian, Monochromatic: Checked
Step 7:
Now go to Filter >> Blur >> Motion Blur. Set the angle to about 45 degree and distance 10 pix. Lastly go to Filter >> Blur >> Motion Blur. Then Ctrl+F is pressed to reapply this filter this filter once or twice to sharpen it up a little.
