Creating a Neuron with Dendrites using Photoshop
In this tutorial, we will walk through the step to creating a neuron with dendrites.This is a great tutorial for medical related websites.

1. Open a new document in Photoshop. Set height/width to 500×500 px.
2. Click Alt+Backspace to make the background black.
3. Create a new layer. Name it “Effect”.
4. Choose a bright color, such as bright green, as your foreground color.
5. Select the Paint Brush tool and paint some diagonal strokes away from the center of the canvas as follows:

6. Goto Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. Set Radius to around 3.
7. Select the Smudge Tool. Set the Strength to around 25%. Smudge out the diagonal strokes you created in “Step 5″.

8. Goto Filter > Blur > Radial Blur

9. Click OK and you should have the following image

10. Right click the “Effect” layer from the layers palette. Choose “Blending Options” from the pop-up list.
11. Set the properties for “Bevel and Emboss” to the following:

12. Set the properties for “Contour” to the following:

13. Click OK and you should now have your 3D neuron with extending dendrites.
