Using Extract Filter to Remove Background in Photoshop
The uses have huge number to extracting an element from a scanned-in image for make digital scrap booking elements or to extracting people from backgrounds for layouts.
There are a couple different ways to do using photoshop and it’s always best to use the right tool for the right job. When background is simple and has a very clear contrast color from the main image we want to extract, it may be easiest to use Photoshop’s Extract Filter.
To do this, use Filter > Extract. Our picture will open in a new window and we will be given a circle tool which works like a magic marker.

Draw loosely around the part of the Picture.
First draw loosely around the part of the picture that we want to keep. Then grab the paint bucket from the upper left corner of that window and fill in the part that we are keeping.

Extract tool using to search in the green part for edges.
What the Extract tool does is to search in the green part for edges. If we need to be very precise and there is not much contrast between our subject and picture background, this may not be a good way to do it, because it may delete too much.
Zoom in and look at work. If our edge is not neat enough, we can clean it up with the extract window’s cleanup tools. For cleanup pleasure, Photoshop has provided the cleanup tool and the edge touchup tool. Cleanup erases and edge touchup sharpens the edge making a clearer delineation between our subject and its ultimate background. The cleanup and edge touchup tools will only become visible after we have clicked “Preview”.

Extracted background from picture.
When we became satisfy that we have edge defined well enough then Click OK.
Find a cool background for element. This extract image may not perfect, but it’s good enough for the purpose of this tutorial. Please comment if you need clarification on anything or you can think of a way to improve this tutorial.
