GOOGLE BOOST-Google advertising for local business

Google announced initial availability of a new advertising program called Boost recently. Boost automatically determines what keywords your business ought to bid on and recommends a range of monthly advertising budgets based on the competitiveness of your business sector. It then runs Cost Per Click ads in Google search and Maps for the recommended keywords. Boost appears aimed at turning Google advertising for local businesses from a complex art often hired-out to specialist consultants into a turn-key technology with far less friction than non-technical business owner’s experience.

Boost is currently only available to local business owners in San Francisco, Chicago and Houston; however, with wide-scale roll out, all SMB owners will be able to create ads directly from their Google Places account. Initial setup is simple, and campaign management is automatic; all the business owner needs to do is set a budget, and Google’s advertising algorithm takes care of the details of placement and frequency. The ads will contain a mix of basic company information (company name, address, phone number, Web site URL), as well as additional information like the number of reviews you have, your average star rating, and a link to your Place page for additional information. The ads will appear in the Sponsored Links section of Google.com and Google Maps pages and, just like with traditional search ads, will appear based on the ads quality and the keywords and location information entered by the searcher.
The use of artificial intelligence to determine keyword and bid recommendations is a very logical extension Google’s core competency and likely to fit within the brand expectations of small business owners.
As a program of Google Places, Boost could offer substantial monetization that would enable Places to experiment with other innovative location-based technologies outside of advertising.
Local and location-based information has been a focus at Google lately.
