There is nothing wrong to comment on others blog post to earn a link in. It increases inbound links. But most of bloggers don’t know the proper way of commenting on others place. If you are not following a decent way to provide comments, your comments will be treated as spam and deleted. Your hard work will be meaningless.
I have browse for the points on different articles of commenting on blogs and providing them together below. Hope it will help you.
Ø Comment writing is some kind of a new form of Art. You need to be very creative to provide a nice comment.
Ø Decide, what is your reason behind this comment. If you want to appreciate someone’s work, write some nice praising words, make the writer feel that you have knowledge on the theme about the blog is and you really appreciate for his/her work.
Ø If you have to disagree to some one’s comment, have some respect to others. Do not prove others wrong. Just provide your own point of view.
Ø Never use any odd words on your comments, do not show your anger. Be cool. There is no one sitting to hear abusive words from you.
Ø Do not provide very short comment like- ‘very nice’, ‘I agree’,’ thanks for the post’ etc. Try to write little descriptive sentence.
Ø Do not write very lengthy comments also. People may not have enough time to read your one
.
Ø Only write comments if you really have idea about the topics. Do not write irrelevant comments.
Ø If you are writing comment only to cultivate link, be careful. Placing link in the body of comment is not wise. Most of the comment form has the place to provide your website URL. Try to use that.
Ø Be sure you are providing a quality comment. Avoid providing wrong information, misspelling, and grammatiacal errors.
Ø Don’t post same comments on multiple blogs. You can be easily identified as a spammer.

This is a good summary of the blog commenting rules which are not often followed. I find on my blogs for instance I frequently get auto generated comments not related to the topic or the short comments such as “nice post” which you have stated not to use. Thanks
